Redlands a lot – Oxy not very much
I don’t think anyone will mind if we basically skip the blog this weak. There really isn’t much to say from my end. Here is Tracy Maple’s typically solid game report if you would like to read up a little about the specifics. The score tells the whole story. Redlands is a good football team, we made some early mistakes, they capitalized on those mistakes, we made some more mistakes, then they made some more plays. They played much more physically than us. They beat us. We still have good players. We still have good coaches. We still even have a chance to make the playoffs. But Oxy alum Jim Mora knows how to respond of anyone mentioning the playoffs around here right now. We just need to focus on Chatman.
Everyone always says the same things after a loss because everyone always knows what to do after a loss. Now we just have to go out and do it. Starting today.
Thanks for reading, everyone,
take it easy,
Dillon

Dillon:
I have continued to follow your football career since the last game you played in the Toy Bowl as a 6th grader for the Ben Franklin Lions and I was just a rookie coach. You have always found a way to make plays and be a high impact player at every level from Boys Club Football, through Old High, and now at Oxy. Naturally I was not surprised to see you selected as a team captain for your senior year.
Now some 12 years later as your football career comes to an end I would like to extend a welcome offer to you to come speak to your first team, the Ben Franklin Lions, after our final practice before the Toy Bowl 2010.
Naturally this is assuming you are at home in Texas and not in California preparing for the playoffs. This is too my 10th and final year in football as a coach and would be privileged to have you rally the Lions one last time.

Hey John!
Tell you what, if I am in town and the Lions make the Toy Bowl (from what I hear they definitely will), I will try and not make a fool out of myself and say something to the team. Some of my best memories playing football were with your son and my other good friends playing football for the Lions so I’d love to be a part of that once again.

Great news Dillon.
The Ben Franklin Lions cruised to a victory Saturday and another trip to the Toy Bowl with a 20-6 win over the Alamo Coyotes. Our opponent will be a team that features 2 players that can best be compared to one of your past opponents, Wolverines #30 (aka Lawrence McKinney). Your Oxy teammates will likely have similar stories from their youth football days. If you will remember Lawrence took the ball on the first play of the game and went 50 yards for a touchdown only to have it called back on a penalty. The very next play he went 60 yards for another would-be touchdown only to have it called back too on a penalty. On the third play of the game Lawrence ran the exact same play for a 70 yard TD, no penalty this time. Yikes ! We knew were in big trouble.
Sure need a good speech on Saturday. They got 2 kids like Lawrence !
